After losing Nobby so unfairly in 2016, after having only a handful of adventures out and about, I was on the look-out for another lamb that would be suitable to take out. Titch maybe could've been the one, but I was still feeling anxious about COVID at the time, so he stayed at home, and these days he doesn't like to leave his field.
Losing my mum this year was the extra push I needed to keep Billy and take him out with me. I was very anxious the first few times we left home - I knew people would be looking at us. Being the centre of attention doesn't sit comfortably with me. But the rewards were worth it. Billy has been so wonderful. I tell everyone I can about my sweet boy and the fun we've been having.
Wee Matt has been a big surprise recently. After Jo and I had him castrated, and once I was sure he was recovered and settled in his new field with Billy and the other pets, I worked on halter training him. He loves treats, even if he's clumsy eating them. With Billy I can offer a handful of lamb creep nuts as a reward, but Wee Matt spills most of them and ends up almost nipping my fingers - so I've broken some of Blue Belle's pony treats into smaller, lamb-sized pieces. These are easier for him to eat.
He's taken well to the halter training, very happy to follow me. He's naturally curious and not easily spooked. Dare I say, I think he could go out for adventures too? I'm very tempted to try him out somewhere...
There aren't just pony treats - he rewards himself with plenty of snacks as we practise around the yard.

He's very cute too.

I'm very glad I decided to keep him.
If you'd told me this time last year that I would have not one but two lambs to take out for walks, I wouldn't have believed you! Funny how things work out sometimes.
