What a Weekend

An awful lot has happened this weekend, so let's begin with Friday.

Sheila looking as beautiful as ever.

This took three attempts to get right, but was worth it in the end. After I got my Sheila photo, I proceeded to go and get Ben out of his pen for a walk in the fields. He was very happy about it and couldn't wait to get going.

RUN!!

On Saturday, Sheila and Kim both helped us foot bath the two massive flocks that we have at home. There were so many sore feet that it was long overdue. As you may already know, young lambs are very difficult to round up, so it took the two dogs and two quads to bring them all in.

Sheila likes watching sheep.

"Can I come out now?"

This is Matilda. She's a very old Rouge ewe who didn't have a lamb this year. So she's going to be sold. Goodbye, Matilda the dinosaur...

These ewes keep an eye out for a dog...

Sheila came out in the morning and Dad was a bit cross because she wasn't confident enough with the angry ewes, which is understandable, so I suggested that after dinner we brought out Kim. We expected a massacre of teeth and claws, but amazingly there wasn't! Kim only bit a few sheep, but there were no severe wounds at all. Kim will definitely be in the Shepherd's Pie (more on that this Summer!). We were all very proud - and her recall around sheep has really improved.

"Aw shucks..."

After that job was done, I went to check on Benny Boy.

"I'm the King of the castle!"

"Hello down there!"

And at last... the final ewe and her lamb are outta here! The lambing shed is empty after December-April of sheep! Whoo-hoo!

And this morning, the thunder set in, with the typing of this very post interrupted for over an hour.

I hope you had a good weekend, too.
